Kirjesålandets primeval forestShow map
Walking in the fabulous primeval forests with trees that are 300-600 years old.
Kirjesålandet’s primeval forest close by the mountains is one of three areas of primeval forest over which there was fierce dispute in the early 1980s. Since 1988 Kirjesålandet has formed part of the Vindelfjällen mountains nature reserve. Kirjesålandet features a more or less completely untouched coniferous forest with 600 year-old pines and 300 year-old spruce.
The Sakkats – Kirjesålandet nature trail, 4 km long, has been provided by the county administrative board and gives information about the primeval forest. It starts from the car park at the bottom end of the Nedre Boksjön lake.
